Many people come to me out of curiosity about the work I do. Curiosity is a beautiful thing – it expands our world and opens us to new possibilities. However, curiosity alone is not enough. In my experience, the most powerful breakthroughs and life-changing results happen when someone not only feels curious but also believes in the work, trusts it will benefit them and comes with a clear intention.
When your curiosity isn’t about “Will this help me or not?” but instead “How will this help me? Which parts of myself will I meet today, and what will shift in me as a result?” – that’s when the real transformation begins.
Expectation vs intention
There should be no expectation attached to the experience. Intention and expectation are very different.
Expectation is about having an end goal – a standard you set in advance and then measure reality against. It creates a picture in your mind of how things should unfold. The problem is, no experience can match that imagined scenario exactly. When it doesn’t, disappointment, frustration or even bitterness can follow.
Intention, on the other hand, is open and flexible. It allows you to meet the experience as it is, without trying to control it.
Every session is unique
No two sessions are ever the same. Even if you’ve done this work before or heard about someone else’s journey, you can’t predict your own. Each experience is shaped by countless factors – your physical state, emotions, energy and what is ready to surface in that moment.
Many people come in with the idea that the goal is to release trauma. Sometimes, that does happen. But other times, the session is about something completely different – a deep realization, an emotion you’ve been avoiding or a moment of truly meeting yourself without masks or distractions.
When you attach a specific expectation, you may miss the profound healing that’s actually trying to happen.
Let go of the idea of quick fixes
Healing is not about quick fixes. Just as you can’t lose in a few days the weight you’ve carried for years, you can’t clear all your pain, patterns, and nervous system imbalances in one session.
Somatic work is deep work. It takes time, multiple sessions and intentional integration afterward to create lasting change.
Instead of coming in with expectations, come with an open heart and a clear intention. Trust that the experience you have is exactly the one you need in that moment. This approach helps you avoid disappointment and allows healing to unfold naturally.
